This was passed to me from a friend going through a very difficult time right now and I thought I'd share...
This is the kind of love we all need!
It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for awhile and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?" He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is." I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, “That is the kind of love I want in my life." True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be. With all the jokes and fun that is in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message. This one I thought I could share with you. The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have. I hope you share this with someone you care about.

Day 9 (otherwise known as the day the other shoe drops)
Well, sadly *sniffs* this vacation is at an end *sighs*. Good-bye staying up all night to chat with people I rarely get a chance to talk to anymore. Good-bye, sleeping in to all hours of the day. Good-bye, walking around in whatever the hell I feel like wearing at any given hour of the day. Good-bye, lazing in the sun with a cold bevie in hand while I watch the neighbors trudge home after a long day of work.
Yup, it's over *whimpers* time to go back to the hell hole I fondly refer to as 'work'. Not looking forward to seeing just what the hell they all managed to screw up while I was gone. Most especially my computer, which I had to leave the passwords for because of what's on the thing. Yes, stuff that they would actually need... Gods, I'm terrified to find out what they did to my baby. I had it working just so... *bites knuckle* this is not going to be good I'm sure... Oh well, like the Brits say, stiff upper lip and all that crap - Cheers folks, I'm off to go figure out if I can legally get away with killing them for screwing with my computer...

Goodbye to a friend...
Not even a month has passed since we lost a member of the family, our beloved pet dog. He'd had a long life of twelve and a half years, quite a good life for a mid-sized dog. He was an English Springer Spaniel, and for those who know the breed, are prone to medical problems. He'd developed a tumor on his left hip about a year and a half ago, that was removed. Then, about eight months later, developed one on his right hip, again, it was removed. Unfortunately, another problem with the breed, when he had regrowth on his left hip, it was discovered to be cancerous. The vet told us that it was spreading into his bones, which was why he wasn't moving as quickly as he had been only a couple weeks earlier.
It came down to a decision, a hard one, and we had to go with the merciful thing and put him down. It was heart breaking, but we couldn't let him suffer.
So this is good-bye old friend, so faithful right up to the end. R.I.P.
