Snippet - 4th Edition

What? You probably figured I was going to forget to give a wee sampling didn't you... Didn't you?! ha! Would I leave you without something to wonder and ponder about?... Actually... I probably would, but this is not the case tonight. Enjoy...

"Okay, is it just me or does this feel like we're getting no where?" Jonas asked quietly as he stared at his continually and increasingly frustrating notes, holding up a hand to forestall Chase. "I did not say we should quit, but there has to be an easier way to damn well do this," he muttered as he scanned the latest of what they'd uncovered.

Swallowing down the last of his pint he held the empty glass up and waved it at the bartender. "She's been gone for ten days Jonas," Chase said in a depressed tone. "Gods only know what the hell Caleb has been putting her through, but if memory serves she's in near constant pain and agony, probably calling him as many nasty names as possible in the hope that she will piss him off and he kills her on the spur of the moment."

"Will he?" Jonas asked, turning his eyes to his friend as their refills arrived.

"Doubtful, but I don't know how creative she is in this timeline," he murmured looking at the mark on his arm before letting go of the edge of his leather wrist band and folded his arms on the top of the bar. "She has always been too damn mouthy for her own good and has managed to piss him off enough that he's done it, but he's also learned greater control over his temper..." his gaze unfocused for a moment and then he cursed in his native tongue long and hard.

"Jesus," Jonas flinched, "I have no clue what the hell you just said but I'm thinking that none of that is going to be helpful to our cause or particularly good for Caleb's health."

"I'm such an idiot," Chase said when he managed to get his temper under some kind of control. When Jonas looked at him in a confused manner he sighed, "I told her how to piss him off enough to loose total control over his emotions."

Jonas blinked at him for a moment and then groaned, "Well why the hell did you do that for?" he hissed out, unsure whether to laugh or just cry.
